Introduction

Welcome! The Firefen Bandits is an adventure game designed for five players.

This is a fantasy table top role-playing game (TTRPG). This means that it uses things board games use—like tokens, dice, and a board—but it is also very much unlike typical board games, in that each player has a huge amount of freedom to decide what they want to do—you're only limited by what your character has at their disposal and your creativity!

In this adventure, each player will either play one of four characters, or have a unique role in this game—the Game Moderator, or GM. The GM, instead of playing one character, controls every other character. They also decide what number(s) the players have to add to their dice rolls to determine whether their characters are able to do what they want to, and what happens in response to the players' successful (and failed!) actions.

Playing this game is more of a time commitment than your standard board game—especially for whichever player decides to be the GM. This adventure will take between 2-4 hours to complete, and the GM will need to put in an additional 1-2 hours of prep time. While this game takes longer than most, it can also be far more rewarding, interesting, and fun. When you play this game, you will have the joy of creating a story together. You'll see your characters grow and change as they fail and succeed at challenge after challenge, and you'll always have that exciting thrill of not knowing what will happen next... even if you're the GM!

If you've decided to GM, please read these instructions in their entirety. If you're another player, only read the following sections titled "For this game you will need:" and "The basics of adventure."

For this game you will need:

• A standard set of dice, or a virtual dice roller (many can be found online). Your dice set should include at least the following:
  • 1 four-sided die (D4)
  • 1 six-sided die (D6)
  • 1 eight-sided die (D8)
  • 1 ten-sided die (D10)
  • 1 twelve-sided die (D12)
  • 1 twenty-sided die (D20)
• A pencil
• Paper
• Either a printer, to print the following PDF, or a ruler and straightedge so you can make the map grids (which consist of 1-inch squares) by hand. Use as much grid paper as you need! There are also grids designed for TTRPGs which can be written on with whiteboard markers and erased, which can be found in most board game stores.

• Something to show the location of each player's character, as well as non-player-characters and enemies—these can simply be circles drawn on the map, parts of post-it notes, coins, extra dice, etc—anything that can fit within a 1x1 inch square. Make sure each piece is unique enough that you can tell them apart! You can also buy miniature figurines for TTRPGs made of metal or plastic from most board game stores.
• Your character sheet. Each player who is not the GM will need to pick one of the four pre-made characters. Feel free to change the name of your character to anything you want! PDFs of these character sheets are below.
